3 Things You Probably Already Know About Ymir – Attack on Titan

Ymir is a character more widely known due to her phenomenal performance in Season 2 and the relation she shared with Historia. This, coupled with her personality just being believable, made her quite an interesting character. But did you know that her name is similar to Ymir, the originator of Titans? Contrary to popular belief, this doesn’t mean anything much and is just a namesake. Also, while she first appeared in Chapter 5, she wasn’t named until after Chapter 36.

1. The Jaw Titan

Ymir was the owner of the Jaw Titan, and this was further exemplified with how sharp her Titan’s teeth were. Somehow, her Pure Titan also had sharp teeth. This was later retconned and removed for more accuracy, probably to give the Jaw Titan feel more essence.

2. The Relationship With Krista (Historia)

This is no surprise to anyone, but Ymir was infatuated with Krista (Historia) and most of what she does in Season 2 is directly related to that. This is what leads to Reiner and Bertolt to also value Krista to honor their comrades wish.

3. Personalities

Ymir and Krista share a lovely duality. Krista is often sweet, loving to everyone around her, despite being very dark inside and living a life of tragedy; in other words, living under a mask. In contrast, Ymir was always selfish and loud, also speaking more like a man. This hid her more delicate side from the rest of the world, however. And that’s why Krista was affected the most by Ymir as she then allowed herself to be more expressive.
