What Have The Fans Seen So Far From The Previous Episodes?
The main plotline is set in a futuristic Japan, 2205 to be exact. The player character then is encapsulated as a sage and is able to time travel. It then takes us to a less peaceful age of Japanese history, which is in a war torn state. Tensions between factions run high during this time period. The atmosphere foreshadows a war, and below the surface, hostility causes a rift between two lanes, one of which is pro-shogun, and the other is against the shogun regime. This is only a piece of the story.
Nevertheless, the main fights are more sci-fi like conflicts rather than historical. A group called the Saniwa manifest the Tsukumogami, which are the spirits of historical blades/katanas. (Much like how Anubis did to the JJBA Stardust Crusader). These spirits come to life with flesh and blood, known as the Token Danshi, and they are the protagonists. Their duty is not to participate in the war with the two clans, but to prevent a darker conspiracy boiling under the veil of history.
The “time retrograde army” or the JikanSokogun have planted the seeds of corruption in the form of cargo that holds the ability to change the path in history completely. The entire series follows two characters, Izuminokami Kanedasa, and Horikawa Kunihiro, who together, seek out for the Jikan Shogun.
Katsugeki Touken Ranbu Season 2 Release Date
Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu is not set to have a second season, but the Ranbu, a Hanamaru primetime show, is set to have one. Most animes end with the main problems in the anime being resolved or brought to other’s attention, but in Katsugeki, there is much more plot development needed if there were to be a second season. The franchise consists of time travel and alternate timelines, so the plot is very massive and cannot be told by using one season.
To that extent, the theatrical adaptation was announced once the tenth episode was concluded. In addition to the live-action adaptation of Katsugeki Touken Ranbu, it has been announced that it will star Hiroki Suzuki and Hiroaki Iwanaga (the voice actor of Gut in the Berserk anime adaptations.), the film has been set to release in 2019.
