It has been almost a decade since the second season of Vampire Knight finished airing. Will the anime be picked up for renewal with Vampire Knight Season 3? What are the chances that the series will receive a third season? If yes, when might a possible release date be?
Vampire Knight is a Japanese manga series written by Matsuri Hino. It received an anime adaptation by Studio Deen. The first episode consisted of 13 episodes which aired from April to June in 2008. It also received a second season from the same studio which aired in the same year from October to December. It has a decent score on both its seasons with 7.25 and 7.41 respectively. Many fans enjoyed how the anime showcased a dark fantasy theme with the inclusion of vampires.
The Plot of Vampire Knight
The story of Vampire Knight is set in the Cross Academy, a prestigious boarding school with two separate classes – the Day Class and the Night Class. Yuuki Cross and Zero Kiryuu are prefects of the academy who keep the classes in order when they rotate in the evening. This is necessary as the Night Class students are actually vampires. Yuuki and Zero work hard to keep the secrets of the Night Class from ever being let into the outside world, much less, the Day Class.
Yuuki takes her job seriously and is always cheerful. She has a crush on the Night students’ dorm president, Kaname Kuran. Zero, on the other hand, despises vampires and has also killed a few. Will humans and vampires ever be able to live in peace together?
The second season takes part after the first season where Zero returns after disappearing from the academy. Yuuki is relieved but wonders about what happened to Zero in his absence. Zero still has the strange vision that has had since the day he drank Kaname’s blood. He visits Maria Kurenai in an attempt to find answers, but her replies are ambiguous, which hint at who the real enemy.
The vampires from the Supreme Vampire Council arrive at the academy to punish Zero for the crime of murder. Kanama intercepts them in hopes of saving Zero and also another secret intention that nobody knows about.

Vampire Knight Season 3 Release Date
The anime upon release was a hit and considered to be amazing. It gained so much attention that it gave birth to the second season in the same year. Fans of the series have always wanted for Vampire Knight Season 3 but to no avail. The officials have not confirmed anything regarding the release of Vampire Knight Season 3.
The anime was a fan favorite at the time of release and fans kept posting online about how bad they wanted a third season to their favorite series. Even a petition was started by the fans who wanted a third season to the series. And it was able to gather over a huge number of 50,000 signatures.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the second season did not conclude the story properly. This allows room for a third season to be able to pick up the story easily. Also, there is no issue of the inadequacy of source material. The manga was started well over a decade ago, and the producers have enough source material to base the third season on.
Kiyoko Sayama, the director of both seasons, expressed how he desires to work on another season of Vampire Knight. He has also stated that he wanted to make the third one, even better than the previous seasons.
But although all of these factors are in favor of Vampire Knight 3 being released, the chances are pretty slim. It has been almost a decade since the second season ended and we have not received any confirmations regarding the third season. Usually, anime series are picked up within a few years of their initial release (not always, but mostly true). The fact that this series has been dead for almost a decade makes the possibility very low. But you never know, anything could happen in the world of anime, so don’t lose hope. Just remember that Berserk took 15 years to receive a renewal – I’m just saying.
